Yarnstorming

Yarnstorming is an annual, outdoor fiber art exhibit that wraps dormant trees in colorful creations before the first buds of spring appear.

Individuals or groups may participate. There is no entry fee. Upon registration, artists may choose the tree they wish to decorate. The theme of each tree is chosen by the artists.

Yarnstorming is sponsored in partnership with the Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore (FACES). Trees will be judged by FACES members and prizes will be awarded at a public art reception to celebrate the artists.

Yarnstorming is a form of public art that employs the use of yarn and fiber.

Participation Details

Registration Begins: Friday, January 15, 2027
Installation: Tuesday, February 23–Sunday, February, 2027
Exhibit: Tuesday, March 2–Sunday, March 28, 2027
Reception: Sunday, March 7th, 2027
Deinstallation: Monday, March 30–Sunday, April 4, 2027

Artists are encouraged to register in-person at the Visitor’s Center, so they can choose the tree they wish to decorate, take reference photographs, and measurements, if desired. Participants who are unable to register in-person should email Jean Wortman, Visitor Services Manager, or call the Visitor’s Center at 410-634-2847.

Guidelines:

  • For the health of our trees and wildlife, refrain from using glitter, wire, mesh, plastics, nails, or tacks.
  • All work must be safely reachable by an 8′ ladder.
  • Installations should be in designated trees only and should not extend to surrounding vegetation.
