Create a magical fairy house for a chance to win a swag bag of Adkins goodies!

Guidelines
The Pop-Up Fairy House Challenge begins July 24, 2024. Fairy houses must be at Adkins Arboretum on display in the new Shady Play Glade by August 14. The Shady Play Glade is located behind the Visitor’s Center, down the path to the left.
If you would like to have your fairy house in the running to win a swag bag of Adkins goodies, pick-up a numbered “tree cookie” at the Visitor's Center front desk, and leave your name and email. Please make sure your numbered tree cookie is visibly displayed next to your fairy house. The Visitor’s Center hours are 10am-4pm, Tuesday-Saturday, and noon–4pm Sunday. The winner will be contacted on August 16 and announced on social media.
Construction Requirements
Fairy houses should be created with natural materials only: dry grasses, leaves, sticks, pebbles, shells, bark from a fallen tree, seed pods, acorns, berries, gourds, miniature pumpkins, pinecones, and flowers are a few examples. Out of concern for our wildlife, entries made with plastics, glitter, or non-native seeds will not be accepted.
All fairy houses must appear to be made of natural components. Hot glue, twine, and other manmade items can be used but must be completely concealed by natural elements, like moss. Fairy houses will be displayed outdoors, so please don’t use paper or other materials that could melt in the rain.
Platforms or manmade support materials (e.g., plywood) can be used for easier delivery and transport but must be concealed with natural materials. Fairy houses must be portable with maximum dimensions of 2’ x 2’ x 2’.
Fairy houses will remain on display through August 31, but may be collected, if desired, beginning August 16. Any houses not claimed by August 31 will become the property of Adkins Arboretum.
