Sunrise Bio Blitz at Adkins Arboretum

Sunday, October 6, 2013
7:00 am1:00 pm

Want to discover an undocumented species? Join scientists, naturalists, and volunteers to document everything from fungi to large mammals within designated areas of the Arboretum. Explore the site, compare ecosystems, and document new species. If you are curious, observant, can take digital pictures, and can access the Internet, you have plenty of expertise to participate. Bring your smartphone or digital camera to record sightings. Volunteers and scientists will be on hand to help identify species and upload images to iNaturalist.

The morning will begin with coffee and an orientation. This is a great opportunity for hands-on learning about local biodiversity while you contribute to science. Since it resembles a free-wheeling scavenger hunt, it's also fun! The program will use iNaturalist as the data platform (visit www.inaturalist.org for more information).

Participants are welcome to join in the Bio Blitz anytime during the event. Recording time will be from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Bring your lunch and share your discoveries and stories.

This program is free.
