Sylvan Kaufman, Science Advisor
Sylvan has worked with the Arboretum in varying capacities since 2002. She currently serves as Science Advisor, answering science and botany-related questions, advising on collections management and land management, and teaching Master Naturalist courses. She also is the principal of Sylvan Green Earth Consulting, an ecological consulting business that offers classes and workshops, restoration and invasive plant management consulting, writing services, and weed risk assessments.
Sylvan holds a Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from Rutgers University and a B.A. in Biology from Vassar College. She is co-author, with her father, Wallace Kaufman, of Invasive Plants: Guide to Identification and the Impacts and Control of Common North American Species.
