Dr. Joan Lunney is a Distinguished Senior Research Scientist working in the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), US Department of Agriculture, Beltsville MD USA. [www.ars.usda.gov/PandP/docs.htm?docid=24827]. She coleads a Consortium that assesses the role of genetics in determining resistance and susceptibility to a major pig virus infection. She seeks scientific solutions to improve animal health and develops new reagents to measure pig health and vaccine responses and for use in expanding pig biomedical models of human health and disease. She is actively involved in mentoring younger scientists, particularly women scientists. As a BARC Senior Research Scientist Dr. Lunney has also been involved in planning cross-cutting agricultural research, supporting new research areas such as Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA).
